Tam's Pancake Brothel
"The place where "sugar" and "hot stuff" have both literal and metaphorical meanings."[1]
Summary
Tam's Pancake Brothel is a local eatery in Newfall that serves both pancakes and pleasure. It was founded in 1798[2] as a result of an extramarital affair between a chef and a hooker.[3] It's also a family business, with the firstborn daughter of every generation being named "Tam" and upholding the tradition of running the place.[4]
It's hard to miss Tam's when walking down the marina, as the red brick building has a neon sign, a sign protruding to the side, and one final sign on the ground making it very clear where you are. The interior is designed like an old-school diner with monotone checkerboard tile flooring and a stripe of checkerboards along the white wall. It has white round tables and red-and-white striped chairs spread across the establishment, as well as a similar-colored bar area with red stools found along the back wall. The bar counter contains a small display rack of a la carte goods and a syrup fountain.
While looking like an ordinary pancake restaurant on the surface, it also shows its other side of business by having handcuffs and a feather boa laying across the place, neon signs of a stripper on the wall, and the main centerpiece of two stripper poles with pancake-shaped bases front and center, the perfect culmination of what this place is all about.
Trivia
- Despite serving as a brothel, the establishment doesn't have a bouncer to act as security.[5]
- The official title of the stripper-waitress-chefs of the establishment is "cock-cooker".[6]
